Outer Banks Health

Outer Banks Health is a growing health system, providing a range of health and wellness services for our community. Designed especially to meet the health needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season, OBH has approval as a provider of Medicare and Medicaid programs, licensure by the Division of Facility Services, and accreditation by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, College of American Pathologists, and the American College of Radiology.

As our community grows and evolves, so does Outer Banks Health. From our humble beginnings as a community hospital to today, we’ve led the charge in being one of the nation’s top rural health systems. We are not only a team, but neighbors, friends and family, too. We care for residents and visitors as we would care for our own family, providing compassionate, high-quality care.

We’re first in the state for patient satisfaction, first in the nation to pilot groundbreaking rural health cancer programs and the very first to be designated a Dementia Friendly Hospital. We work with our partners, ECU Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, along with other health organizations throughout North Carolina and Virginia to help our residents and visitors access the best possible care for their diagnosis. Many times, we’re able to deliver that care right here, close to home.

Outer Banks Health is looking to the future, bringing an expanding list of services and programs to our community.

Development Council

When we formed the Outer Banks Health Development Council in 2005, cancer services across our region were fragmented — and we wanted to do something about it. Our solution? Establish a single location where families in our community could turn for cancer information and support.
